Planned Major Website Update

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Over the course of the next few weeks, we hope to undertake a major update of the website. Since Keiichi Anime Forever started four and a half years ago, we have been always adding onto to what we have. Basically, that means that we’ve been running on stuff primarily designed and written all the way back in 2004. Sure, the website has changed on the outside, but things have gotten uglier behind the scenes. Because the site will basically be re-written from the bottom up, things will be done differently.

Our current major feature, anime music, will be updated as part of the process. How we index and list OSTs will be altered to be more user-friendly and less error-prone. Some of you may have noticed that there are broken links from time to time for individual songs or sometimes entire albums. While the current system is a vast improvement over the one we set up in 2004, there should not be any of these problems. Right now, we just toss all the music into a folder and the site automatically generates the index for us. We don’t store any extra information about the albums such as who uploaded it, when it was added, or any of that. A consequence of that is that we can’t properly add ratings, comments, or alternate series names, as some have suggested we do. While we can’t say we plan to implement those particular features soon, the update should make it easier to do in the future.

Smaller parts of the site, such as the Your Account website, will get an update too. The only portion of the site that we don’t plan to do much about is the forum.

New KAF Blog

Friday, December 19th, 2008

While we have always kept our members up to date regarding changes and updates through the forum or chatroom, we realize that there are many visitors who have not opted to join the community. We’ve created this blog to solve the problem. Plus, lengthy posts about our plans and progress do not fit well in the forum and surely not the chat, so this blog will be a great place for those.

For those who are curious, we do have another blog. However, that blog has always been for documenting our downtime rather than to inform visitors about ongoing development.
